Kotilingeshwara Temple is a temple in the village of Kammasandra in Kolar district, Karnataka, India.The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and living by its name, the temple actually houses more than one crore Shiva lingas. First Shiv-linga was installed on 10 Oct 1980. The tallest Shiv-linga in the Kotilingeshwara temple is 108 feet which is considered to be one of the highest in the world. Besided that there is a Nandi statue is of 35 Feet high.


Within the premises of the Kotilingeshwara temple, there are about eleven other temples for different deities. The temples include Goddess Annapoorneshwari Temple, Goddess Karumaari Amma Temple, Lord Venkataramani Swamy Temple, Lord Panduranga Swamy Temple, Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana Temple, Lord Panchamukha Ganapathy Temple, Lord Anjaneya Temple, and finally Goddess Kannika Parameshwari Temple.

Kotilingeshwara temple has no links to any mythological history. It is a recent addition from the local ‘Gurus’ who have made a stellar effort to generate Bhakti by going in for huge sizes of Shiva Lingas as also a great numbers of them inspiring awe in the visitors. What is note worthy is the systematic way they have gone about in achieving the same. The lay out of the Linga’s are well planned with a number of various Gods enshrined in small temples inside right from Lord Manjunatha ( having the first Linga there) to Kubera Venkataramana and also Santoshi Mata.

Main festival celebrated in  Kotilingeshwara temple is Shivratri. There will be heavy crowd during Shivratri days.

The Chamundeshwari Temple is considered as a Shakti Peetha is Hindu temple located on the top of Chamundi Hills about 13 km from the palace city of Mysore in Karnataka,India. The origin of Shakti Peethas is associated to the mythology of Daksha yaga and Sati’s self immolation. Chamundeshwari devi is called by the people of Karnataka as Naada Devathe which means State Goddess.

Mysore was ruled by the demon-king Mahishasura, he was a buffalo-headed monster. Hence, came the name of this place - Mahishuru, the city of demon Mahisha. Hearing to the prayers of Gods and Goddess to save them from the monster, Goddess Parvathi, (consort of Lord Siva), took birth as Chamundeshwari and killed the monster. After killing the demon, the Goddess resided atop the Chamundi Hills where she is worshiped with reverence and devotion. The goddess is also known as Mahishasura Mardini meaning She who slew Mahishasura.




The Chamundeshwari devi temple is of a quadrangular structure. Built in Dravidian style, it consists of the Main Doorway, Entrance, Navaranga Hall, Antharala Mantapa, Sanctum Sanctorum, and Prakara. There is a beautiful seven-tier Gopura or pyramidal tower at the entrance and a ‘Vimana’ (small tower) atop the sanctum sanctorum. Atop the ‘Shikara’, the tower at the entrance, are seven golden ‘Kalashas’.




Chamundi Hills rises to a height of 3,489 feet MSL and is visible from a distance itself while traveling towards Mysore. There is a good motorable road to the top. Besides from Mysore side, there is also a motorable road from its rear side, the Nanjangud side.




Chamundi Hills offer the best panoramic view of the Mysore city during the months of September to October. Although, the weather is quite pleasant throughout the year; the temple is highly flocked during the months of September and October due to festivals of Dussehra and Diwali.




This temple Darshana and Pooja Timings: 7.30 a.m to 2 p.m and 3.30 to 6 p.m and 7.30 p.m to 9 p.m.. During this period major part of the Maa Durga rituals are performed. Archana, Aarti and Abhisekham are the daily pujas performed. Abhisheka Timings : 6 a.m. to 7.30 a.m and 6 p.m to 7.30 p.m | Friday 5 a.m to 6.30 a.m.

Dasoha (free meals) is arranged to devotees daily 12.30 p.m to 2.30 p.m.



Direct Entry Ticket prize to visit Chamundeshwari Temple is Rs 100.
